Entrepreneurs navigating today’s volatile business climate face a paradox: workers increasingly crave stability, yet organizations must stay agile to survive. Deloitte’s 2025 Human Capital Trends report introduces “stagility”—the ability to build stability while enabling speed as a critical concept for leaders reshaping their organizations. The research shows that 75% of workers are seeking more stable work environments, while 85% of business executives believe agile systems are essential for future success. This gap reveals an urgent need for entrepreneurs to design work that grounds employees without sacrificing adaptability.
Startups and small companies have an advantage, they can rewire their work structures from the ground up. Rather than relying on rigid job descriptions or linear career paths, they can define roles based on skills, passions, and outcomes. Companies like Zoho and NAB are already implementing systems that move away from fixed roles in favor of capability-focused models, empowering individuals to grow into new opportunities. As Giorgia Agnello, CHRO at Ceva Santé Animale, puts it, “When our workforce is not empowered... we don’t see the desired business outcomes.” Startups should view workforce design as a strategic imperative, not a back-office function. By grounding teams with new “anchors” such as shared purpose, flexible roles, and clear goals—entrepreneurs can build companies that scale without losing cohesion. Stagility might just be the blueprint for building sustainable, fast-moving teams.
