Millie, a California-based women’s health startup, has introduced its first agentic AI tool, Maia, to streamline maternity and broader women’s health support. Integrated into the company’s mobile app, the assistant helps patients manage appointments, locate information, and receive timely reminders. Founder and CEO Anu Sharma described Maia as “a patient companion that is available to patients through the Millie app and has the ability to query all the data that is available on the back end.”
She added that the assistant reduces delays by answering routine questions immediately. Millie built the system with privacy safeguards and automatic clinical escalation for medical inquiries, a measure Sharma explained by noting, “That also allows us to identify what types of clinical questions our patients might be facing.”
The company raised $12 million in Series A funding earlier this year to expand its services beyond maternity care across preconception, gynaecology, and menopause. The launch follows Millie’s rebuild of its data infrastructure into a unified, AI-ready platform capable of linking clinical, operational, and patient information. Executives indicated that the framework enables real-time analytics, documentation tools, and automated risk detection while supporting future clinical triage assistance.
Senior Technology Leader Chase Schwalbach stated, “The healthcare system is full of valuable patient data that sits trapped in disconnected systems,” emphasising Millie’s decision to design a consolidated dataset from the ground up. With two active clinics and plans to add two to four more next year, Millie aims to meet growing demand from health systems facing OB-GYN shortages and seeking technology-driven care models.
