Girish Mathrubootham to Step Down as Freshworks Executive Chairman After 15 Years

Girish Mathrubootham, Founder of Nasdaq-listed Freshworks, is stepping down as Executive Chairman to focus on mentoring and investing through the Together Fund, the venture firm he cofounded in 2021. The fund backs early-stage software startups and is placing growing emphasis on AI. In a post on X, Mathrubootham wrote, “Next, I’ll focus on Together Fund & AI startups, working towards India’s dream of becoming a Product Nation.”

His departure concludes a 15-year journey that began in Chennai in 2010, during which he grew Freshworks into a Nasdaq-listed SaaS player. Mathrubootham, who transitioned from CEO to Executive Chairman in May 2024, will be succeeded by Roxanne Austin, Freshworks’ current lead Independent Director. According to SEC filings, his resignation was not related to disagreements over company operations or policies, and following his exit the board will shrink to nine members.
