Function Health, founded in 2023 by CEO Jonathan Swerdlin, is working to change how people approach lifelong health management. The membership-based platform, priced at $499 annually, provides two rounds of extensive lab testing, starting with an initial 160-test panel and followed by more than 60 retests to monitor changes over time.
The company, backed by investors including Matt Damon, Zac Efron, Pedro Pascal, and Jay Shetty, now serves hundreds of thousands of members across the U.S. “We, previous to this, knew less about our bodies than we knew about our cars. And Function has changed that. Nobody can say in 2025 that they have no way to understand what's happening inside their body,” Swerdlin. Instead of waiting for acute medical crises, the model encourages early detection, regular monitoring, and actionable insights.
Swerdlin’s personal experience with health challenges shaped his vision for Function. He emphasizes that “health care is not about helping you manage your lifelong health—it’s about solving problems,” pointing to the need for a system that enables people to stay on top of critical functions like the heart, liver, kidneys, and hormones.
The company recently introduced an FDA-cleared AI-driven scan that cuts time and cost dramatically, making full-body assessments more accessible. Swerdlin sums up his mission simply: “I have one focus, which is to do every single thing in my power to make sure our members can live 100 healthy years.”
