Fitbit Founders James Park and Eric Friedman Launch Luffu Family Health and Safety Platform

Fitbit Co-Founders James Park and Eric Friedman have introduced Luffu, a new company focused on helping families stay healthy, safe, and connected through an intelligent family care system. The platform launches with an app-based experience and is designed to expand into complementary hardware over time. Luffu uses artificial intelligence in the background to collect and organize family health information, learn household routines, and flag meaningful changes that may require attention. Unlike individual-focused health tools, the system is built for shared caregiving across children, adults, older parents, and even pets, aiming to reduce the mental load carried by family caregivers and improve coordination among care circles.

Park said the idea for Luffu emerged from his own experience managing care for aging parents at a distance. “I didn’t want to constantly check in, and she didn’t want to feel monitored,” he said. “Luffu is the product we wished existed—to stay on top of our family’s health, know what changed and when to step in—without hovering.” Friedman added that modern caregiving often spans multiple generations at once. “We designed Luffu to capture the details as life happens, keep family members updated and surface what matters at the right time—so caregiving feels more coordinated and less chaotic,” he said. The platform emphasizes privacy and user control, positioning itself as a supportive guardian rather than a monitoring tool, as it seeks to address the growing demands placed on family caregivers.
