Dennis Crowley Launches BeeBot, an AI Social App for Real-Time Local Updates

Dennis Crowley, the Co-Founder of Foursquare, has introduced a new project called BeeBot, an audio-based app that delivers short updates about nearby people, places, and events. The app runs in the background and speaks through a user’s headphones as they move around, pulling information from location data, user status updates, and interest “keywords.” Crowley describes it as something closer to a casual running commentary than a formal news feed, and the current version is designed to work best in walkable cities.

BeeBot remains in beta and is limited to iOS users in the U.S., with broader support still in development. It works with any headphones or Bluetooth devices and only interrupts when it has something to say, though not during calls or video chats. The experience is intentionally sparse—a few updates a day rather than a constant stream—and the content leans more toward light neighborhood chatter than structured reporting. For Crowley, it marks another attempt to experiment with how software can layer real-time context onto everyday environments without demanding full user attention.
