Sword Health Buys Kaia Health to Broaden AI-Based Care in the U.S. and Germany

Sword Health has agreed to acquire Kaia Health in a transaction valued at $285 million, strengthening its AI-based care platform and extending its reach to new patient groups. The deal adds Kaia’s digital programs for musculoskeletal and pulmonary care to Sword’s existing services and brings the company into Germany, one of Europe’s largest healthcare markets. In the U.S., Sword will replace Kaia’s MSK solution with its own platform so that current members continue to receive uninterrupted support.

Virgilio Bento, Founder and CEO of Sword Health, said, “This acquisition will accelerate our already rapid growth in the United States while also opening Germany as a major new market, in our mission of democratizing, through AI, access to high-quality care all over the world.” He added, “We’re excited to work with Kaia’s clients and partners, further expanding our presence in the U.S. market.”

Kaia Health brings a large user base and strong partnerships, including access to Germany’s digital health reimbursement system, which covers more than 70 million people. Sword plans to build on this footprint while giving Kaia’s millions of U.S. members access to its broader AI Care services. The companies aim to provide more consistent care across regions and conditions, while keeping costs in check for payers and employers. By combining their platforms, Sword and Kaia expect to support a population of more than 100 million people worldwide, using AI to manage physical, pulmonary, and other health needs as demand for digital care continues to rise.
