Perplexity Acquires Team Behind Sequoia-Backed AI Design Startup Visual Electric

AI search startup Perplexity has acquired the team behind Visual Electric, a Sequoia-backed AI design company founded in 2022 by Colin Dunn, Adam Menges, and Zach Stiggelbout. The founders, who previously held roles at Facebook, Apple, Dropbox, and Microsoft, will join Perplexity’s new Agent Experiences group, which focuses on improving user interaction through AI-driven creative tools. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Visual Electric built tools that helped designers generate and edit images—and later video—on an infinite canvas. As part of the transition, the company will wind down operations within 90 days, allowing users to export their data and receive prorated refunds. For Perplexity, the move is a talent acquisition that deepens its expertise in AI-powered creativity and expands its ability to build consumer-facing products.
