With IPO, Figure Pushes Blockchain Deeper Into Capital Markets

Figure’s story began in 2018, when Mike Cagney and June Ou set out to prove that blockchain could rebuild capital markets. What started with loans has since scaled into a platform that has funded $17 billion, processed more than $50 billion in blockchain transactions, and built a 170-partner network spanning financial institutions and consumer brands. Along the way, Figure pioneered blockchain-native securitizations recognized with AAA ratings by Moody’s and S&P, and introduced YLDS, the first SEC-registered yield-bearing stablecoin.

Now, under CEO Michael Tannenbaum, the company has gone public. The IPO signals not just an inflection point for Figure but also a broader shift as blockchain moves from edge concept to mainstream market infrastructure. By focusing on speed, transparency, and new financial products, Figure is positioning itself to compete in a $185 billion market—showing how a startup built on conviction can scale into a player capable of reshaping finance.
