Grammarly Secures $1B to Expand AI Productivity Platform

Grammarly has closed a $1 billion financing round led by General Catalyst, a move that reinforces the firm's push to become a leading AI productivity platform. The investment comes just months after Grammarly acquired Coda, further deepening its capabilities beyond writing assistance into enterprise-level workflow and knowledge management. This infusion, part of General Catalyst’s Customer Value Fund, will be used to expand sales, marketing, and strategic acquisitions. With over 40 million daily users and more than $700 million in annual revenue, Grammarly is now targeting broader enterprise adoption.

CEO Shishir Mehrotra noted the integration of Coda has unlocked new ways to serve users from students to large organizations through AI-driven tools that feel like a collaborative teammate. The platform now supports more than 500,000 apps and websites, embedding features such as proofreading, paraphrasing, tone adjustments, and knowledge retrieval directly into users' workflows. “With General Catalyst’s continued partnership and confidence in our vision, we can scale faster and more sustainably,” Mehrotra said. For founders and product leaders building in the AI space, Grammarly’s latest raise offers a signal: there’s growing investor appetite for tools that go beyond automation to drive real productivity gains at scale.
