Slauson & Co., a venture capital firm co-founded by Ajay Relan and Austin Clements, has successfully raised $100 million for its second fund, a significant increase from its initial $75 million Fund I. Launched in 2020 with a mission to support early-stage founders, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, the firm has expanded its focus on inclusive investments across sectors like SaaS and consumer tech. Companies in its portfolio include The Folklore Group and Prado, with more than half of its founders being people of color and women. Slauson & Co.'s commitment to inclusive funding continues as the firm aims to make 30 new investments from Fund II over the next three years.
Despite a challenging economic climate and declining corporate initiatives in venture funding, the firm remains steadfast in proving the success of its investment strategy. Relan and Clements raised the second fund amid less investor enthusiasm for socially focused funds but successfully secured institutional backing. Fund II, with fewer limited partners than its predecessor, will write checks between $500,000 and $2 million. Slauson & Co. hopes to inspire broader interest in investing in overlooked opportunities, with Relan stating that their mission is to build a brand that represents communities often ignored by traditional venture capital.
